Timo Tolkki’s Avalon “Return to Eden”

Timo Tolkki's Avalon is a metal opera project created by composer, guitarist, Timo Tolkki (formerly of Stratovarius, Revolution Renaissance and Symfonia) in 2013.

“Return to Eden” is the third album released in 2019. Like the previous albums it contains a large list of great name guest musicians.

The album includes the renowned Dutch singer Anneke Van Giersbergen (ex-The Gathering), Zak Stevens (former Savatage), Todd Michael Hall (Riot V), Mariangela Demurtas (Tristania, Ardours) and Eduard Hovinga (former -Elegy).

After so many years, Timo Tolkki is still able to delight us with his skills in the six strings and composition and he gives us at least 4 songs of first level, in which stand out:

“Promises”, first single from the album. The powerful initial riff along with the dizzying arrangements of guitar and keyboards immediately fascinates us with its full Power Metal sound. The catchy vocal line, played brilliantly by the powerful voice of Todd Michael Hall.

“Limits”, a work of pure Power Metal that looks like the golden age of Stratovarius. The song has the powerful voice of Eduard Hovinga. The instrumentation is fast and impeccable. Without a doubt this song will be in my top of the best of 2019.

In conclusion it is a great album, without being spectacular. But I think the best of the record is to see Timo Tolkki back. It is a metal opera well performed by a genius of Metal and I think that if he follows this path, we will have a lot more tunes from him with more excellence.
